TAIERI GORGE TRAIN TRIP

The Dunedin Railway Station, with its Edwardian architecture, is a real jewel in the city. It is a most spectacular building. The train, with its classic carriages, is a great example of our heritage still working in action today. We get you aboard the train for the 4 hour round trip on the famous Taieri Gorge Railway, then pick you up at the station for a really good look around the city on a 2 hour van tour of Dunedin.

The train trip is a comfortable journey inland across the Taieri plains, then a climb into the Taieri Gorge. Here you will marvel at the engineering of the determined pioneers. There are 10 tunnels, many bridges and viaducts and an informative live commentary on board telling the story of the history and nature of the area. There are stops along the way to stretch your legs and enjoy the peaceful surrounds. You'll take in beautiful scenes, get a real sense of the pioneering spirit and see how farming is a big part of life in New Zealand.  

The return journey to Pukerangi is an all weather, all seasons and all ages activity. There are bathrooms onboard and a licensed cafe selling a wide variety of food and beverages.
